Advocacy
HAFAA spends considerable time advocating for the creation, change or improvement of policies and codes that benefit workers in the fitness industry. We have successfully attended commission hearings, blocked changes to the Fitness Award that would have been detrimental to workers, lodged Fair Work FOI requests and seen the implementation of new WHS standards and codes of practice. -
Giving Back
We donate a minimum of 10% to charity.
Since launching HAFAA we have been able to raise thousands of dollars for various charities across Australia, supporting organisations for medical research, mental health, human rights and more.
During the first National Covid lockdown in 2020, we donated 100% of costs to Bushfire Relief and in the coming months, we look forward to launching a new feature which will allow FitPros to "choose your cause" when registering. -
Toolkits
We provide copies of Risk Management Procedures, Best Practice and other documents needed by sole traders. -
Member Newsletters
Stay informed with our news as well as regular industry updates on legislative changes, workplace reforms, and advocacy outcomes.
We are the only organisation that ensures fitness professionals remain fully informed of changes that impact them.
WHY HAFAA IS DIFFERENT
-
Independent & Worker-Focused: Unlike all other bodies, HAFAA has no affiliation with gym chains and does not serve employers or commercial interests. It exists purely to support fitness professionals — not gyms or chains.
-
Industrial Advocacy: HAFAA actively engages in industrial relations, including making Fair Work Commission submissions and helping members with award interpretations, employee vs contractor issues, and WHS rights. Other registration bodies avoid this space entirely.
-
Union Affiliation: We are affiliated with the United Workers Union (UWU) to provide advice, support, Enterprise Bargaining, and more.
-
No Mandatory CEC System: HAFAA does not force members to buy continuous education points (CECs) every year. Members can submit evidence of ongoing activity in their field instead, as well as receiving free professional development including in their registration.
-
Genuine Reform Effort: HAFAA campaigns on real systemic issues like wage theft, Fair Work reform, WHS legislation gaps, and is not just a registration provider.
-
Member-Led Focus: HAFAA actively consults with members on priorities and focus areas, allowing them to help shape the direction of our work. Any registered member can join our Consultative Committee, giving them a direct voice in shaping HAFAA’s advocacy, policy development, and services — something no other registration body offers.
-
Certified Social Enterprise: HAFAA is officially approved as a social enterprise by both Social Traders and People+Planet First. This means our primary purpose is public or community benefit, not private profit. To achieve this status, we underwent a formal accreditation process reviewing our structure, finances, governance, and purpose — something no other registration body in the fitness industry has done.
-
Affordable & Accessible: Membership is designed to be fair and affordable, avoiding the higher costs often seen with legacy registration providers.
-
Transparency: HAFAA is upfront about its processes, member rights, and what registration does and doesn’t cover.
